Alice Lackey

Alice Margaret Brady Lackey Jennings: Alice Margaret Brady Lackey, a life-long native and resident of Jennings, Louisiana, entered into her eternal rest Wednesday, April 11, 2012. She was surrounded by her family and was 88 years old. Mrs. Lackey was born in Lake Arthur, Louisiana on October 21, 1924, the second daughter born of Dr. Charles Sanford Brady, O.D. and Dr. Mattie L. Franquez, Brady/Langley, O.D., also of Jennings. Her parents preceded her in death as did her sister, Dr. Ruby B. Fink, O.D. of Eunice, brother, Charles E. Langley of Jennings; foster sister, Metha Pulver, RN of Jennings; husband, Alfred G. Lackey of Jennings; son, Benton A. Lackey of Houston, Texas; oldest grandson, Michael J.L. Moran of Metarie, Louisiana and son-in-law, David W. Milam of Cypress, Texas. She is survived by her four cherished daughters: Cheryl L. Loughlin and her husband Robert “Bob” of Cibolo, Texas; Linda L. Moran and her husband Mike, Esq. of Metarie, Louisiana; Alice L. Manus, PhD and her husband Rev. Richard, PhD of St. Louis, Missouri; and Irene L. Milam, of Cypress, Texas. She was also the beloved grandmother, “Nana” of 10 grandchildren: Melissa L. Williamson of Austin, Texas; Major Mary L. Bayer, US Army Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Melanie L. Berry of Jacksboro, Texas; Melinda L. Niemietz of Cibolo, Texas; Dr. Marlowe M. Dravid, MD of New Orleans, Louisiana; Meghan M. Rusciolelli of Washington, D.C.; Matthew B. Manus of St. Louis, Missouri; Mary Courtney M. Baker, Esq of St. Louis, Missouri; and Marc A. Manus of Kansas City, Missouri. The great grandmother of 12: Kristian N. Rodriquez of Converse, Texas; Lourrin and Clara Niemietz of Cibolo, Texas; Brady and Clay Bourne Williamson of Austin, Texas; John “Trey” and Michael Berry of Jacksboro, Texas; Blaire and Blaine Bayer of Kansas City, Kansas; Rowan, Lily, and Jackson Dravid of New Orleans, Louisiana; and one great granddaughter, Sophie A. Rodriquez of Converse, Texas. She is also survived by one brother, Dr. William A. Langley, O.D. of Lake Charles, Louisiana and her special nieces: Cynthia F. Ardoin of Houma, Louisiana, Dr. Rhonda M. Pucheu, O.D. of Eunice, Louisiana, and Charlene Veuleman of Roanoke, Louisiana, plus several nieces and nephews. Alice was a 1941 graduate of Jennings High School and attended Belhaven Girls College in Jackson, Mississippi prior to the beginning of WWII. She was a graduate of Vincent Business School of Lake Charles, Louisiana and briefly resided in San Diego, California during WWII, where she worked assisting and developing classified photographs for the U.S. Marine Corp. She was the first secretary and bookkeeper of the Jeff Davis Vocational Trade School and the O.L.H.C. school secretary for 10 years. She was a Daughter of the American Revolution and a charter member of Entre Nous Women’s Club, Pink Ladies and Catholic Daughters of America. She was a life-long member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church and was a past member of the Ladies Altar Society and the Wednesday Rosary Group. “Miss Alice” , as she was affectionately known, had an absolute “Joie de Vie” for life. She was a gentle and kind woman of wisdom, humor, and warmth. She cherished her faith and many friends, but was devoted to her family above all else. We shall truly miss her smiling face and the love that she gave all of us. She absolutely loved the City of Jennings and her Catholic faith. She was a loving and caring daughter to her mother, Dr. Mattie, and a supportive and nurturing mother to her five children, and a loyal and true friend to her many life-long Jennings friends. Visitation with family members will be held from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM on Thursday, April 12th at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Jennings and will continue from 9:30 Friday morning on April 13th until time of services at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church. All the surviving members of Mrs. Lackey’s Rosary group are invited to join her family in the Rosary starting at 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 12th at Matthews & Son Funeral Home. The Rite of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church on State Street starting at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 13th. Donations to Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church are preferred in lieu of flowers. The Lackey Family would like to gratefully acknowledge the gentle and loving care of Kalvin Thibodeaux, CNA and Sue Taheny and Roxanne Leger; a special thanks to Barbara Granger and Lisa Fontenot, CNA, who were Mrs. Lackey’s personal caregivers; and to Loretta, Megan and Sarah of Heart of Hospice of Lafayette for all of their attention given to our parents in their last days.
